In this new ongoing Marvel Comics series by Dennis Hopeless (All-New X-Men, Spider-Woman) and Victor Ibanez (Extraordinary X-Men), Jean Grey is determined to escape her destiny of becoming possessed by the Phoenix. We follow Jean Grey in this solo publication as she attempts to undo her own future.

In the finale of Avengers vs X-Men, a teenage Jean Grey traveled through time and arrived in the present. She discovered the fate of her predecessor as the Phoenix, the cosmic entity has left her in an endless cycle of life and death. Now she knows through a premonition that the Phoenix is coming for her. Jean Grey is setting out to prevent history from repeating itself.

This new publication is following on from the Brian Michael Bendis series, Avengers vs X-Men, so this is the original 1960s line-up Jean Grey. All of the interceding events have not yet occurred, you could call it a retcon, which is the flavor of the month in X-Men outings.

Jean deserves her own solo series, which surprisingly has never happened before. The singular X-Men titles allow more time for exploring the character and with conclusion of the X-Men vs Inhumans and the Phoenix there are many plot threads to unravel. Jean Grey #1 will be published by Marvel Comics on May 3, 2017.
